Hi! I’m Kirsty and I was born and raised in the Shetland Islands in Scotland. I first came to New Zealand to live in 2009, but after graduating from the University of Victoria in 2014 I returned to Europe, and spent the next few years living and working in Bremen, Germany. I returned “home” to Wellington a little under three years ago and have very much settled back into life here!
I’ve been looking to volunteer for some time, and when I stumbled upon Bellyful I knew immediately that it was an organisation and a cause that I could really get behind. Food for me has always been a way to show people that I care, and it’s such a good way to bring people together – so I love that Bellyful does this in really a practical way for those in the community who need the support. It’s amazing the difference it can make to a family to not have to worry about making dinner, and the pressure that it can take off when things are particularly busy or tiring.
I currently work full-time in the CBD as a programme lead, coordinating my team to deliver events, activities and wellness initiatives across the country. When I’m not working I love to spend time with friends and my family (I am lucky enough to have some of them in NZ) – I have a three-year-old niece here who very much keeps me on my toes! I also like to get out for hikes in the bush, try new recipes, travel (at least pre-COVID!), read a good book and am partial to a bit of Netflix! Now in that “spare” time I can’t wait to play a more integral role in the Hutt Valley community!
